Tesco redesigns former Woolworths shops
Retailer giant Tesco has confirmed it plans to buy and reopen former Woolworths supermarkets under Tesco Express brand.
The first unit will be open soon in Ulverston, near to Liverpool.
Juliette Bishop, Tesco Express corporate affairs manager, said: "We
have just taken over the building and will convert the store, which
may involve some minor works. Subject to any planning permission
needed, we hope to open the Tesco Express store late this spring."
The company says between 20 and 30 jobs could be created if it
gets the go-ahead to convert the store. Woolworths employed 17 staff
in Ulverston before the Market Street branch was closed on December
29.
