Wizz Air did not have a good year
Last year was not a “framatically good” year for airlines, and the same applies to Wizz Air, too: the company hopes that 2011 may turn out to be better, no one should expect stellar performance from carriers, said József Váradi, chief executive of low-cost/low-fair airline Wizz Air.
The Hungarian no-frills airline boosted revenues by 23% year on year in 2010 and also managed to keep its cash stock intact, he added.
“2010 was not a dramatically good year either for Wizz Air or for the whole industry,” Váradi pointed out. A number of factors, such as the volcano eruption in Iceland, strikes in Europe and the adverse weather conditions in December, had a negative impact on airlines. Wizz Air carried 9.6 million passengers last year, 23% more than in 2009, and without the aforementioned circumstances it would have recorded more than 10 m passengers, Váradi mentioned.
