New HUF 5,000 limit for cash machines: inconvenience and charity opportunities
As of October 26, MOHU introduced a new rule for the use of cash machines: it set a HUF 5,000 limit per transaction, up to which the machine will issue purchase vouchers. Due to the restriction, anyone who wants to redeem more than a hundred HUF 50 beverage packages must do so in several transactions, a Pénzcentrum reader learned on a REpoint. Employees of the affected stores advise customers to contact MOHU directly with their questions about the limit.
A significant amount of returned packaging
MOHU aims to replace at least 90% of beverage packaging in Hungary within three years, which means more than 3 billion packaging per year. The number of bottles, cans and bottles returned in the new system has already reached half a billion. However, the HUF 5,000 limit may cause inconvenience to several customers, as the most popular form of redemption is a paper voucher that can be purchased in the store, the total value of which exceeded HUF 20 billion. 10-15% of refunders request the refund directly to their own bank account.
Charity opportunity at the vending machines
The machines also provide an opportunity to donate the redemption fee to charity. So far, more than HUF 70 million has been collected, which will be distributed among three pediatric institutions: the Heim Pál National Pediatric Institute, the Bethesda Children’s Hospital, and the Semmelweis University Pediatric Clinic benefit from the donations.
Plans to expand the network
There are more than 3,700 reversing machines nationwide, but many feel that this is still not enough. MOHU plans to further expand the network; automatic glass replacement machines are already being tested at 10 gas stations on an experimental basis. If the pilot program is successful, these machines may become available in additional locations.
