The desire to travel is back: ALDI Travel reached a record number of passengers
The number of ALDI Travel bookings in January broke all previous records. Compared to the period before the pandemic, the number of passengers has almost doubled, and in the case of some destinations, demand has doubled since January 2023.
ALDI Travel, which has been operating in Hungary for the seventh year, closed an extremely strong month in January 2024. Compared to January 2019, the last year before Covid, almost 100% more people booked trips with the service provider. The most popular destinations are still Croatia and Italy. Most of them booked a trip to our southern neighbor, their number was almost 40% higher than a year earlier, but the sales revenue from there increased by almost 60%, which is due to the fact that Hungarian travelers chose higher price category accommodations. The trend was reversed in the case of Italy, which is also very popular: the number of passengers almost doubled in one year, but the sales revenue only increased by 50%, here the Hungarians chose the more affordable service providers. In the case of boat trips, however, the two indicators are balanced: the number of passengers increased by 175%, while traffic increased by around 150%. Mediterranean cruises were the most popular, but there were also many bookings for more distant destinations, such as Atlantic cruises. These trips are special because they start from Europe to the American continent, but the return trip – for example from the Caribbean – is by plane.
