Hungary’s only open sea buckthorn harvest is being held for the second time on the outskirts of Tápiószentmárton. This year’s ESBANA Harvest is not only a rural specialty, but also an event of national importance: it has been included in the official program of the Szedd Magad Festival organized by the City Mother.

During the harvest, which will be held in late summer and early autumn, participants will not only be able to pick one of the most nutritious berries in the world with their own hands, but they will also learn about the process of organic cultivation and processing, while tasting ESBANA’s award-winning products. Guests can visit the plantation with a professional guide, participate in educational mini-lectures, and taste the world of the superfood with a glass of fresh sea buckthorn lemonade or shot in hand.

Sea buckthorn berries are an orange fruit rich in vitamin C, which is becoming increasingly popular in our country. It has become a favorite of conscious consumers due to its immune-boosting, anti-inflammatory effects, and versatile uses. The fruit grown on the organic plantation in Tápiószentmárton is harvested by hand between August and September – and now you can join in.

The couple who run the estate, Tünde Zsíros and Attila Kiss, have been making natural, premium-quality sea buckthorn products since 2020. Their syrups, jams, chutneys, and SeaSHOT drink range have won several domestic and international awards in recent years. In 2024, their Honey Bio Sea Buckthorn Fruit Marrow was awarded the FRUIT JUICE OF THE COUNTRY, and their sea buckthorn-mango syrup was awarded a star at the Great Taste Awards in England. Several of their products can now boast stars.

– Although the taste of sea buckthorn is new to many, we love its raw sourness, which we can also show in lemonades, shots or jams. The goal of the Experience Harvest is to bring this special plant closer to people – said Attila Kiss. – We received a lot of positive feedback in the first year, so we were happy to continue the idea, and we are especially proud that this year it will be realized as part of a national festival.

You can register for the program at www.esbana.eu. Visitors can participate in the event in several rounds, with a limited number of participants.
