New Year’s Eve fireworks vendors will appear in the parking lots of large department stores this year as well: pyrotechnic devices can be purchased at Tesco and Lidl stores between December 28th and 31st. The seasonal offer – in accordance with legal requirements – only contains products that can be used on the last day of the year, unused items must be returned to the distributor by January 5, points out the Pénzcentrum’s fresh article.

Retail chains emphasize that in the case of temporary stands operating in parking lots, the stores only provide the location, and the sales and subsequent administration – including complaints and returns – are carried out by external pyrotechnic distributors. This practice has been an established model for years during the New Year’s Eve season.

Wide price range, strong entry level

Based on Lidl’s special offer, the simplest pyrotechnic devices, typically products with smaller light and sound effects, will be available from 399 forints in 2025. In the lower price segment, additional items will also appear at prices of 490–550 forints, which are primarily based on impulse purchases.

Classic product categories – such as Roman candles – can continue to expect stable demand: the price of a 12-piece package will be around 3,690 forints this year, while the majority of simpler, smaller fireworks will be in the price range between 1,500 and 4,490 forints.

Premium packages for tens of thousands of forints

Large, complex fireworks packages will also appear in the upper segment of the offer this year. The most expensive product in Lidl’s parking lots costs 84,990 forints: this is a package with several hundred shots and complex visual elements. In addition, large, longer-lasting fireworks are also available at prices of 41,990 and 59,900 forints.

Tesco’s offer is at similar price levels. One of the entry-level products here also starts at around 390 forints, while packages for 20,000–25,000 forints appear in the mid-range. For example, the Big Bang product offers 65 shots for 20,990 forints, and the Mega Stars package with 25 shots for 23,900 forints targets customers looking for more spectacular home fireworks.

Regulated market, predictable season

The sale of pyrotechnic products remains strictly regulated, the use period and the take-back obligation remain unchanged. According to commercial experience, the New Year’s Eve fireworks fair is primarily based on impulsive demand realized in a short time window, the focus of which falls on the period of December 30–31.

For large department store chains, the fireworks fair remains an additional, turnover-increasing element, which primarily strengthens parking use, seasonal customer traffic and the intensity of year-end shopping, while the operational and legal risk remains with external distributors.
