Moderate rise in the price of swine
Trends in the world market of meat and poultry are monitored by the Agricultural Business Research Institute (AKI). Data from the price information system (PÁIR) operated by KSH and AKI can be useful for even short term business decisions. Production and prices are both rising in 2008 in the market of swine. Production in the USA is expected to grow by 7 per cent. Strong demand is driving prices up in spite of increased production. Production in the EU is expected to drop somewhat in 2008, while prices are expected to rise by 10 percent. Supply continues to shrink in Hungary, with a 9 percent drop in production and prices following the EU trend. The rise in the price of turkey stopped in the summer and has been stagnating ever since. The average price of turkey breast was up by 14 percent in the first half of 2008, compared to the same period in 2007. Turkey prices show seasonal fluctuation, reaching the top in November and hitting the bottom in April.
