The proportion of remote work has fallen – although it was never popular in Hungary
In 2022, the proportion of telecommuters decreased in the majority of EU member states compared to the previous year. In Hungary, only 10.6 percent of the working-age population regularly or occasionally teleworked their activities, which is considered a low figure even in the region.
The lowest rates are found in Romania (4.3%), Bulgaria (4.4%) and Hungary (10.6%), while the highest rates are registered in the Netherlands (53%), Sweden (45%) and Luxembourg (40%). . The EU average was 22.4%.
According to József Nógrádi, Trenkwalder’s commercial director, a further decrease in the proportion of remote work is expected this year. Companies started narrowing the possibilities of the home office, justifying the better controllability of office work.
