Poultry meat imports fell in 2025

Based on KSH data, Hungary’s poultry meat exports increased by 3 percent to 227,000 tons in 2025 compared to 2024. Within this, the export of chicken meat increased by 12 percent to 163,000 tons, and that of turkey meat by 4 percent to 25,000 tons. The largest target market for poultry meat was still Romania. Hungary’s poultry meat imports decreased by 17 percent to 50,000 tons in 2025, within which the delivery of chicken meat fell by 16 percent to 46,000 tons, and turkey meat by 28 percent to 3,000 tons. Most of the poultry meat came from Poland.

Based on slaughtering statistical data of the AKI, 748,000 tons (live weight) of poultry were slaughtered in Hungary in 2025, 3.0 percent more than in 2024; within this, slaughter chickens accounted for 584.5 thousand tons (+10.0 percent), and slaughter turkeys for 74.7 thousand tons (+6.4 percent). According to data from the European Commission, the EU average price of whole chicken was 288 euros/100 kilograms in January 2026, which exceeded the previous year by 4 percent. According to AKI PÁIR data, the live weight producer price of slaughter chickens in Hungary decreased by 0.2 percent to HUF 427.0/kg, while that of slaughter turkeys increased by 10.9 percent to HUF 665.3/kg in the first month of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year. The processing sales price of chicken breast fillet was HUF 1,950.0/kilogram (+3.1 percent), bone-in chicken breast was HUF 1,169.9/kilogram (-4.0 percent), chicken breast (total) price was HUF 1,834.7/kilogram (+0.1 percent), and chicken thigh was HUF 864.2/kilogram (+1.6 percent) in the observed period.
