A drop in the number of guests at Lake Balaton

During the first quarter of 2009 the accommodations at Lake Balaton were 136 thousand, 14 percent less than last year’s same pariod – states KSH’s Mirror publication.

Compared to last year, the domastic travel traffic which is the four-fifth part of the whole traffic decreased with 16 percent, the traffic of foreign tourists decreased with 6 percent. The 389 thousand guest nights at the Lake Balaton shows a 13 percent decrease. Almost all guest nights were registered in hotels – in particular three-and four-star accommodations. Although, the number of Austrians has increased by 8 percent, but the number of Germans decreased. The number of tourist from the European Union and the Far East has not changed significantly but the number of American visitors has been decreased to one-tenth. The average hotel room occupancy was 36 percent, which is a  6 percent decrease compared to last year.
