The momentum of the tourism boom is demonstrated by the fact that by the end of July this year, the number of tourists had already exceeded the number registered in the first seven months of last year by 6.4 percent. In July, almost 2.5 million guests enriched domestic accommodation facilities with 6.7 million guest nights, which were 1.9 percent more guests than a year ago – highlighted Visit Hungary Zrt., a subsidiary of the Hungarian Tourism Agency, commenting on the latest data on Wednesday.

As they added, thanks to the large number of sports events and festivals that are also tourist magnets, Visit Hungary is expecting an encouraging August, which overall projects a high season that will surpass last summer.

Overall, this year’s momentum in tourist traffic remains unbroken – the analysis concluded and highlighted: around 10.7 million tourists stayed in our country in January-July, exceeding the number of tourists in the first seven months of last year by 6.4 percent.

By the end of July, a total of 25.6 million guest nights had been generated in our country, 2.9 percent more than in the same period in 2024. Thanks to this, accommodation establishments nationwide were able to record a revenue of 630.6 billion forints in the first seven months of the year, 12 percent more than at this time last year.

In the seventh month of the year – despite the fact that the number of rainy days was 17, compared to 11 last year – 1.3 million domestic tourists chose to vacation in Hungary. Most of them traveled to Lake Balaton and the Mátra-Bükk region for vacation, but the largest increase in the number of domestic guests, almost 12.2 percent, was registered in accommodation establishments in Budapest.

The development of domestic demand, which always responds flexibly to weather conditions, was more than offset by the nearly 6 percent increase in foreign tourists. Thus, guest traffic increased by 1.9 percent overall in July.

A total of 1.1 million international travelers visited Hungary in the second month of summer. The majority of them visited Budapest, which hosted 10.1 percent more foreigners than at this time last year.
