Visit Hungary: around seven hundred thousand people rested in Hungary during spring break
The desire to travel did not wane even after Easter, so 664 thousand tourists visited the Hungarian countryside during the April vacation period, and between April 17-27., accommodations received 36 percent more guests compared to last year’s spring break – Visit Hungary, a subsidiary of the Hungarian Tourism Agency, told MTI on Wednesday based on data from the National Tourism Data Service Center (NTAK).
The most popular rural destination among domestic travelers was Balatonfüred, followed in a tie by Eger, Siófok and Hajdúszoboszló, and then Hévíz. The explosive numbers of the vacation period also predict outstanding results for the whole of April – the statement said.
During the spring vacation, 338 thousand Hungarian guests stayed in accommodations, which represents a 27 percent increase compared to the spring break of 2024. The capital has also proven to be an attractive tourist destination among Hungarians, with Budapest welcoming 30 percent more domestic guests this year than during last year’s Easter holiday.
The pleasant spring sunshine attracted most domestic travelers to Lake Balaton, the Mátra-Bükk, the Budapest area, Debrecen and its region, as well as the tourist regions of Tokaj and Nyíregyháza
– they announced.
The announcement mentioned that the spring holiday brought 25 percent more domestic guest nights this year compared to last year. According to NTAK data, double bookings were the most common at accommodations, but families were also happy to travel. 19 percent of domestic guests were under 18 years old, and the proportion of bookings for three or more people was also 9 percentage points higher during the spring holiday period than in the 11-day period preceding the break.
53 percent of Hungarian travelers booked in hotels, with nearly 60 percent of them choosing four-star hotels. Private and other accommodations were also popular, accounting for 31 percent of bookings.
326,000 foreign travelers accounted for 50 percent of the 1.5 million guest nights generated nationwide.
