Until May 30, settlements can still apply for one of Hungary’s most successful and longest-running environmental beautification competitions, the Flowering Hungary competition, Visit Hungary informed MTI.

They highlight that the organizers’ goal is to have as many cities and villages as possible take action for the environmentally conscious development of their green spaces. With the extension of the original deadline, municipalities have two more weeks to register. You can apply on the competition website, and participation is free of charge.

The organizing committee and the subsidiary of the Hungarian Tourist Agency, Visit Hungary, have announced the competition in 5 categories according to the size of the settlement. In addition, thematic awards will also be awarded: including the Main Square and Avenue of the Year award, or the Flowering Community and Flowering City and Village Walks awards, they wrote.

As a new initiative, the five villages with the smallest population, under 500 people, that apply this year will receive a special prize of a valuable gift package containing climate-tolerant flowers, trees and shrubs.

This time, the cause of sustainable environmental beautification was won over by several ministries, including the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Construction and Transport – the latter is now supporting the competition by awarding two awards. In addition, many professional organizations are offering valuable prizes to the settlements presenting the most outstanding green projects.

The settlements registered for the competition, which is now being held for the 32nd time, are visited personally by the professional jury, where they receive evaluation and expert advice during the judging process. In this way, Virágos Magyarország also contributes to strengthening the perspective of sustainable green space management.
