Visit Hungary: Hungarian tourism closes another record year

The 2024 tourism record was achieved in just 11 months this year, with the number of guests registered at accommodation facilities reaching 18,226,413 on December 2nd, thus breaking last year’s full-year guest count, which was a record – Visit Hungary Nonprofit Zrt. told MTI.

According to Visit Hungary, further lively interest is expected until the end of the year, during the traditionally outstanding Christmas and New Year’s Eve period, making 2025 another successful year in the history of Hungarian tourism.

According to the information, guest traffic will exceed the period between January and the first days of December this year by 7 percent the results of the same period last year. The gross revenue of accommodation facilities exceeded the value measured in the same period of 2024 by 12 percent and the turnover of catering establishments by 9 percent.

The distribution of guests was balanced nationwide, with foreign and domestic travelers arriving in a ratio of half and half. Budapest was chosen by 38 percent of guests, while the Balaton region continues to be one of the most visited rural destinations, offering attractive programs in every season – they informed.

The continuously increasing guest traffic clearly shows that conscious developments and Visit Hungary’s data-driven, experience-focused campaigns are achieving tangible results and increasing the awareness of our country – wrote the subsidiary of the Hungarian Tourist Agency.

Tourism continues to be the most dynamically developing sector in Hungary, which, thanks to the high quality of services and authentic experiences, stably strengthens the country’s economic performance – they added.
