Visit Hungary: almost 80 awards presented at the Flowering Hungary Awards Ceremony

400 applications from hundreds of settlements competed in the Flowering Hungary competition, and almost 80 awards were presented at this year’s, now 32nd, award ceremony – Visit Hungary Nonprofit Zrt. announced to MTI on Saturday.

Among the large cities, Kecskemét won the top prize in the competition for cities with fewer than 30,000 inhabitants, Szentes won the top prize in the competition for villages with more than a thousand inhabitants, and Várda won the top prize in the category of smaller ones. Budapest won the top prize at the XVI. district was awarded by a jury consisting of gardeners, landscape architects, urban planners and tourism professionals – they wrote.

This year too, the thematic awards, for which the most applications are traditionally received, moved the communities. The Main Square of the Year award was awarded to Kardos, and the Chestnut Row of the Year went to Paks’ Danube-side Chestnut Row. The Kindergarten Garden of the Year award was won by the Budapest XXII. District United Kindergarten, and this year’s winner of the Floral City and Village Walks category was Miskolc.

The special award of the Hungarian Tourist Agency and Visit Hungary Nonprofit Zrt. was given to Mezőkövesd in the city category, to Háromhuta in the village category, while the Chief Patron Award went to Baranyahídvég. This year, the Prime Minister’s Special Award was awarded to Harkány and Vonyarcvashegy. The Award for the Most Flowering Municipality went to Tatabánya, Esztergom, Érsekcsanád, Kisbodak and Budapest’s 14th District, while the Ministry of Agriculture awards went to Nagykőrös and Etyek. The Green Innovation of the Year award went to Debrecen, and the Flourishing Community of the Year award went to Szikszó in 2025. In addition, Dunakeszi received a special award for its high-quality green space management.

As a new initiative, the five smallest villages, with under 500 inhabitants, were also honored with a special award for their efforts to beautify the environment: Gagyapáti, Kékkút, Hegyhátszentmárton, Salföld and Regéc were able to take home a valuable gift package containing climate-tolerant flowers, trees and shrubs.
