Visit Hungary: hotels in the capital welcomed almost 100 thousand guests during the Formula 1 race weekend
During this year’s Formula 1 race weekend, the capital’s hotels welcomed almost 100,000 guests, with occupancy rates exceeding 86 percent. Most foreign guests came from Great Britain, Poland and Germany for the jubilee 40th Hungarian Grand Prix between August 1 and 3, Visit Hungary told MTI on Wednesday, based on data from the National Tourism Data Service Center (NTAK).
According to the information, the 96,000 guests spent 180,000 guest nights in Budapest hotels, which is 17 and 15 percent more than during the previous year’s race weekend, respectively. 91 percent of those arriving at the accommodations were foreign, and international guest traffic exceeded last year’s high base by 20 percent, they added.
Budapest hotels were almost fully booked, lower-category hotels were full, and the occupancy rate of three-star hotels approached 88 percent. Due to the higher demand, average room rates doubled compared to the previous weekend.
After the British, the most foreigners came from Poland and Germany, followed by the United States and Romania, they noted.
In the settlements around the Hungaroring – Mogyoród, Gödöllő, Kerepes, Veresegyház and Nagytarcsa – the number of guests increased three and a half times, and the number of nights spent by them increased six times compared to the previous weekend.
