Among the ten national parks in our country, the Balaton Uplands National Park is considered the most beautiful by Hungarians – this is what is revealed in the online survey by Csodásmagyarország.hu – Visit Hungary Zrt announced to MTI on Tuesday.

In the online survey by Csodásmagyarország.hu with the participation of 2,198 people in July 2025, 22 percent of respondents voted for the Balaton Uplands National Park. Aggtelek National Park, famous for its stalactite caves, came in second with 20 percent, and Bükk National Park, which attracts visitors with its leafy forests and waterfalls, came in third with 18 percent.

Őrség National Park – a region of rural landscapes and shady forests – came in fourth with 14 percent, and Hortobágy National Park, an iconic location of the Great Plain and traditional animal husbandry, came in fifth with 11 percent.

Fertő-Hanság, known for its aquatic habitats and birdlife, and the Duna-Dráva National Park, dotted with floodplain forests and marshes, both received 4 percent each in the survey. Duna-Ipoly National Park – home to river valleys and forests – achieved 3 percent, while Körös-Maros National Park, a region of floodplain meadows, and Kiskunság National Park, home to sandhills and steppe landscapes, received 2 percent each.

They highlight: each nature reserve offers special attractions and experiences – including several World Heritage sites, such as Aggtelek, Hortobágy and Fertő-Hanság National Parks.

The Balaton Uplands National Park, now voted the most beautiful, hides many curiosities: for example, here you can find Kis-Balaton, which is also the setting for István Fekete’s novels, the Tapolca Lake Cave, which is unique in the world and offers boating opportunities, and the famous Tihany Peninsula. It is also worth exploring the Bakony-Balaton Geopark, Hegyestű, the Badacsony Basalt Organs, as well as Salföld and the Kápolnapuszta Buffalo Reserve.
