Minister of Agriculture declares force majeure due to April frost damage
The spring frost damage that occurred at the beginning of April is recognized as a force majeure event for the entire territory of the country by Minister of Agriculture István Nagy. The affected farmers can submit applications related to the extraordinary situation to the Hungarian State Treasury within 21 days of the damage event.

“Based on Section 3 (7) of Decree 23/2024. (IV. 9.) AM on the procedure applied in the event of unavoidable external causes (force majeure) related to measures financed from the Common Agricultural Policy and the national budget, in view of the spring frost observed between 6 and 11 April 2025, the Minister of Agriculture recognizes the occurrence of a force majeure situation for the entire territory of the country.” By declaring a force majeure situation, the Minister of Agriculture exempts farmers from having to prove the damage event. However, for the recognition of force majeure, the application specified in Section 5 of Decree 23/2024. (IV. 9.) AM must be submitted to the Hungarian State Treasury within 21 days of the occurrence of force majeure. Economic operators participating in the damage mitigation system may submit their applications for compensation until May 31.
