The groundbreaking of the new terminal at Liszt Ferenc Airport is an important step for Hungary’s aviation and means a lot for the country’s economy – said Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concessions, President of VINCI Airports on Friday at the ceremonial groundbreaking of the terminal+ project, the new building complex for the airport and related infrastructure development at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport.

He highlighted that Hungary welcomed more than 20 million tourists in 2025. International interest in the country has increased, and more and more Hungarian tourists are traveling abroad.

He acknowledged that last year, Liszt Ferenc International Airport served around 20 million passengers, a 12 percent increase compared to the previous year. Cargo traffic increased by 40 percent, making BUD Cargo City the number one cargo hub in the region and Asia. Nicolas Notebaert said: they are convinced that this growth will continue in the coming years.

He stressed that VINCI Airports is committed to providing Hungary with a modern, world-class air gateway.

He added that when the Hungarian government bought back Budapest Airport and chose VINCI as its partner, a strong, stable, long-term partnership was established. Budapest Airport has produced above-average growth since joining their network. He mentioned that in 2025, the cooperation of the parties concerned ensured the handling of the summer peak season traffic, operating at full capacity.

Budapest Airport is also expecting strong traffic in 2026, with new flights from America, Canada, South Korea, and China. There have been and will be significant developments at the existing terminals, the president said.

The airport’s new terminal is modern and will be able to accommodate up to 10 million more passengers. The development plan includes both the air and ground sides. “Over the next 10 years, 1 billion euros will be allocated for development, which also shows their commitment to developing the airport,” said Nicolas Notebaert.
