VIMOSZ: optimism in the tourism sector
Persisting optimism characterizes the Hungarian tourism sector, the players of the sector perceived their situation as positive – the National Association of Tourist and Hospitality Employers (VIMOSZ) told MTI on Thursday based on the latest survey conducted with the cooperation of GKI Economic Research.
The tourism business index (tki) stood at +3 points in June (interpreted on a scale between -100 and +100), which means that the players in the sector perceived their situation as positive. The value of the index decreased minimally, by 1 point, in the sixth month of the year, but even so, it is 2 points higher than its value a year ago. In accommodation services, the index increased by 2 points to 5 points, and in hospitality by 1 point to minus 1 point. In the other tourism sector, it decreased by 5 points to 8 points, they said.
Regarding the entire tourism sector, the majority of regions indicated positive prospects, only two regions’ expectations are slightly negative. The economy of accommodation services is favorable in the majority of regions (the Northern Great Plain is the most favorable, while the Central Transdanubia is the least). In hospitality, the business cycle index is slightly positive or neutral in four regions, while in three regions it is strongly negative. In the other tourism sub-sector, a favorable economy is expected in all regions (at the same time, the expectations of companies in the capital are negative).
