Stormy winds hit Lake Balaton and the capital – swimming is prohibited at the lake
A second-degree storm warning is in effect for the entire area of Lake Balaton due to stormy weather, so swimming is currently prohibited.
According to the Időkép report, the lake’s water surface is wavy, crested waves are crashing into each other, and the water spray is considered particularly dangerous. Since the early hours of the morning, stormy wind gusts have been causing problems in Transdanubia and the Budapest area. The base wind speed exceeded 60 km/h in several places, and gusts of 80–90 km/h were also measured in some places.
Extreme, hurricane-force winds of 116 km/h raged in Fonyód Várhegy in the early hours of the morning. Meteorologists are warning the public to be extra careful.
