Crisis of rural accommodation: shorter stays and decreasing bookings characterize the summer
According to a recent report by ATV News, bookings for a whole week or longer at rural accommodation providers are becoming increasingly rare. People generally prefer 3-5 night stays, which is a significant setback for accommodation providers.
In the report, the example of the guest house in Longhetény was presented, which awaits guests in a beautiful environment, with fully equipped rooms and a swimming pool. The owner, Zoltán Sárvári, reported that the traffic has decreased significantly compared to recent years.
“People’s wallets don’t allow for vacations, recreation, and relaxation like in previous years. In stores, goods and life as a whole cost more. The part that they could spend on vacations and recreation until now is not there now.”
said Zoltán Sárvári.
The owner of the guest house operating in Hortobágy also reported similar problems. They don’t even open in winter, as the seven-month opening hours don’t cover the costs. Mihály Boda, the owner, said that it is almost always full during events, such as the drive-out festival, goulash competition, equestrian days or the bridge fair. After that, there are no guests for days.
