Leadership change at IKEA: Jakub Jankowski takes over
Inter IKEA Group CEO Jon Abrahamsson Ring will step down at the end of the year. From January 1, 2026, Jakub Jankowski, a 49-year-old Pole who has previously led IKEA’s manufacturing business, will take over the company. The furniture industry is currently struggling with serious trade tensions, especially the impact of US import tariffs.
International experience, new goals
Jankowski has held various positions at the company in Poland, Romania, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Sweden. Speaking to Reuters, he stressed that his goal is to ensure that Inter IKEA Group is able to meet customer demand even in the face of global economic headwinds. He highlighted that in the long term, restoring prices to pre-pandemic levels is one of his most important aspirations.
Double leadership change
The announcement came a month after Ingka Group – the largest IKEA franchise owner – also appointed a new CEO in the person of Juvencio Maeztu. This is the first time that both companies, which emphasize their Swedish roots in their communications, have been led by non-Swedish leaders.
Ring’s departure and legacy
Abrahamsson Ring, 51, worked at IKEA from 1998 to 2008, including as an assistant to founder Ingvar Kamprad, before returning in 2017. Under his leadership, the company faced supply chain problems and rising raw material prices caused by COVID-19. Following the price increases, Ring is also credited with cutting prices in an attempt to lure back customers who were “tired of inflation” – but this also resulted in a decline in revenue.
