Seed association: sufficient autumn rye seed is available to farmers

According to the announcement of the organization, with the cooperation of the sector actors, they launched their campaign to encourage the greater use of metal-sealed seeds among agricultural farmers. Among the sown seeds, the proportion of metal-sealed seeds is currently about 40 percent on average per year, which means that Hungary is lagging behind the European average. Géza Takács, President of the Inter-Trade Organization and Product Council of the Seed Association, emphasized: I would like to make people aware that an important condition for the production of marketable quality goods and ensuring traceability is the use of qualified, metal-sealed seed. Péter Perczel, the chairman of the organization’s ear and large-seeded legume section committee, explained: every year before the autumn sowing season, a survey is carried out among the membership, and an informative price is established by taking advantage of the possibilities provided by law. Taking the market conditions into account, the association published an informative price of HUF 161,000 net per ton for winter wheat and HUF 150,000 per ton for winter barley in the II. for reproductive grade seeds. The specific contract price is determined by the parties themselves.

Compared to the low crop prices of a year ago, there is a slight increase, but there is a significant difference between the feed and mill quality categories. The lower expected sales revenue of the lower forage quality characteristic of the country cannot be offset by the higher average yield, and this has a negative effect on the intentions to purchase metal-sealed seeds. The ever-increasing financial problems characteristic of recent years are also acting against the increase in the use of metal-sealed seeds – the seed association indicated in its statement.
