Kroger-Albertsons mega-merger at risk
The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is opposing the controversial merger of the supermarket chains Kroger and Albertsons, fearing it will lead to higher prices for consumers and worse working conditions. Kroger announced in October 2022 that it wanted to buy its rival Albertsons for USD 24.6bn, creating the second-largest US chain with more than 5,000 stores and 700,000 employees in 48 states.
