Germans spent 3.9 billion euros on drugs without prescription, in the first half of the year
The turnover of nonprescription medicines and medicinal preparations decreased by 1.5 percent, to 3.9 billion euros, in the first half of the year in Germany, compared to last year’s January to June period.
This represents 20 percent of the total medicines and medicinal turnover of 19.6 billion euros – sets the German company of Nielsen.
Eighty-two percent of the nonprescription medicines and medicinal preparations was sold in Pharmacies, while 18 percent was sold in food retail and drugstores.
In quantities 673 million packs of medicine without a prescription (OTC), was sold in the first half of the year in Germany. This is about a 3 percent decrease, compared to last year's comparable period.
