The Secretary of State spoke about greater support than ever before
Producers who choose organic farming will receive greater benefits than ever before, announced Zsolt Feldman, the State Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, on the 16th, at Bioculture Day. The politician highlighted the five-year organic farming support program that is now starting, which was specifically created to support the expansion of organic farming.
Bioculture Day has come to an end. The event, organized once a year, for the 34th time, and held under the patronage of Dr. István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, was held on November 16th this year at the MOM Cultural Center. The two main modules of the event were the issue of public catering and eco-subsidies, but there was also a presentation on the integration of precision farming into organic farming. Although significant developments are expected in the near future regarding school meals, the topic of subsidies is more urgent, as farmers can only submit their applications for the ÖKO subsidy program, which starts on January 1, between November 25 and December 23. As was also stated on the Bioculture Day, there are prerequisites for this, so the farmers concerned essentially need to act urgently in order to participate successfully.
The five-year program, which will last until December 31, 2029, provides a more favorable opportunity than ever before for already practicing organic farmers and those who are now planning to switch to organic farming, Zsolt Feldman, State Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development at the Ministry of Agriculture, drew the attention of those present at the event.
The attendees were able to gain first-hand knowledge from government and organic farming experts who gave presentations about the relationship between organic farming and plant protection, the system of subsidies related to organic farming and their withdrawal, and precision farming.
It is also a tradition associated with Bioculture Day to present the awards of the Hungarian Bioculture Association at this time. This year, the Pro Bioculture Award was received by Dr. Borbála Biró, professor of the Department of Agro-Environmental Science at MATE, and István Karmazsin, organic farmer and plant protection engineer. The Organic Farm of the Year was awarded to Pécsi Sörgyár Zrt., while the Organic Farmer of the Year award was received by organic beekeeper Ottó Kiss from Gábor Czeller, president of the Association.
