Changing shopping habits: tricks, trends and disappearing specialty stores
The retail market is undergoing a continuous transformation. Shopping habits are changing, while stores are trying to attract consumers with various strategies. Today’s market is characterized by stores that offer attractive prices, stores that focus on organic products, national grocery stores and specialty stores that are increasingly being pushed into the background – writes mfor.hu.
Sales and misleading pricing
Low-priced stores remain attractive, especially if they have a well-known brand name. However, misleading marketing strategies are not uncommon: some department store chains advertise half-price offers, while the prices of certain products exceed the prices of popular Swedish, German and Spanish competitors. The popularity of German drugstores remains unbroken, as they also sell basic household products, combining the offerings of old drugstores and household stores.
At the same time, the digitalization of discounts and their integration into mobile applications is not always favorable for older customers. The store owners are confident that profits will remain significant, as many products are available exclusively at their stores.
Organic stores and expertise
The number of salespeople in large stores is low, and they are primarily engaged in stocking or cashier work. They rarely have detailed product knowledge, which is not surprising, since there are thousands of products in each category.
In contrast, the number of organic stores is growing, and more and more such stores are opening in frequented locations. The growing demand and the change in trend are clearly visible: a recently opened organic store in Buda, for example, offers an exceptionally wide selection, which may surprise even regular customers. These stores often employ qualified salespeople, which is a rarity these days.
The popularity of organic stores is also increased by the fact that they offer a wide variety of free foods, teas, syrups and medicinal products. For those following a special diet, these stores are a safe place to shop.
