Dutch Supermarket Sales Expected To Grow
The new study said revenues are expected to grow to E789m in the week before Christmas, up from E737.6m last year.
During Christmas Supermarket sales
during Christmas are expected to grow by 6% year-on-year in The
Netherlands, as consumers stock up due to the slowing economy,
according to new figures from market research group GfK. The
researcher added that it expects more consumers to stay at home this
year, and noted that people were visiting restaurants less
frequently, partly due to the smoking ban which came into effect in
July.
GfK said supermarket revenues rose an estimate 5.5%
year-on-year to E2.31bn in October, up from a 4.7% growth in
September, but attributed this to rising food prices. Data from
Statistics Netherlands showed that consumer inflation was at 3.1% in
September.
