This year’s maize crop fulfills the domestic demand
The Minister of State at the conference of the Livestock and Meat Interprofessional Organization and Marketing Board (VHT) told on Thursday that according to the latest figures, 95 percent of the maize was harvested from the country's 1.144 million hectares sowing area and about 4.3 million tons of maize was delivered to the storages. The average yield per hectare is close to 4 tons.
The country's annual maize demand for feed and industrial use is 4.0 – 4.2 million tons. Only a small quantity of maize can be exported.
The 4.5 million tons harvest is a significant achievement, because even before the harvesting of the corn the most pessimistic estimates were about 3.5 million tons. (MTI)
