Mihály Varga: the government stands by the interests of Hungarian farmers
The government views agriculture as one of the pillars of sovereignty, and therefore will continue to stand by the interests of Hungarian farmers in the future, the Minister of Finance stated on Friday in Szolnok.
At the ceremony to dedicate the flag of the Hungarian Farmers’ Association and Farmers’ Cooperatives’ Association (Magosz) for the county flour program “Bread of Hungarians – 15 million grains of wheat” held in the ceremonial hall of the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County Government, Mihály Varga said: this year, Hungarian farmers will be supported with more than 1,300 billion forints from domestic and EU sources, and next year this amount will be increased to 1,500 billion forints. He added: as long as Hungary has a national government, the interests of farmers will also be represented at the government level, and farmers will be protected from Ukrainian grain dumping as well as from the threat of the termination of area-based EU subsidies. Domestic food factories and the protection of Hungarian agriculture are important for Hungary’s sovereignty, he emphasized. More than half of Hungary’s territory is under agricultural cultivation, so we Hungarians know the importance of agriculture well, we know that the work of farmers is the key to the stability of the Hungarian food industry, the minister said. He emphasized that the government will continue to pay special attention to eliminating problems related to agriculture, supporting the work of farmers and enforcing their interests at EU level. In addition, they will help with the domestic processing of agricultural products, their entry into domestic stores and their access to foreign markets.
The Minister of Finance said that the event is both about national unity as an intellectual value and about practical assistance to those in need
The significance of the Hungarian Bread wheat collection program is seen by more and more people every year, and more and more farmers are participating in it, providing support and donations, he added. Within the framework of the initiative launched in 2010, national solidarity and assistance form a unit, and Hungarian farmers donate hundreds of tons of wheat to charitable causes every year. Although the weather was not favorable for production, one hundred and sixty tons of donated wheat were collected in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county alone – he announced. Mihály Varga congratulated the farmers of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county for finishing first in the inter-county wheat collection. The primary goal was not the record, but to provide assistance – he added. The donations reach intermediaries who have dedicated their entire lives to helping others – he said. Vivien Horváth, National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) Magyaroks Kenyere Nonprofit Közhasznú Kft. The managing director of the Hungarian Bread program said that donations were collected at three hundred collection points in three hundred Hungarian-populated settlements on both sides of the border this year. He said that the Hungarian Bread for the Future scholarship program was launched for the second year, and this year they can provide support to twice as many young people. Hubai Imre Csaba, the president of the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County, said that the most important factor of national unity is the Hungarian land, as well as the Hungarian language, the Hungarian historical churches and the Hungarian Bread program, and then he praised the donating farmers and thanked the participants in the program.
