Judit Varga: The emergency situation in Hungary is expected to end on June 20
In recent weeks, there has been an unprecedented disinformation campaign against Hungary, both domestically and internationally, in connection with the lex-COVID law and the declaration of a state of emergency, Judit Varga said after the meeting of the General Affairs Council. The Minister of Justice said that much earlier than in many European countries, the emergency situation in Hungary is expected to end on June 20.
Judit Varga also reminded that in recent weeks there has been an unprecedented disinformation campaign against Hungary both on the domestic and international scene in connection with the lex-COVID law and the declaration of a state of emergency.
This is not the first time that the Hungarian government has been unfoundedly accused, but as it has been so many times before, the misleading information about us has proved to be clearly false.
Judit Varga pointed out. Today, a bill aimed at repealing the extraordinary legal order will be submitted to the Parliament. It is now becoming clear to everyone that the measures taken in an emergency were not only necessary, proportionate and successful, but also temporary, the head of the ministry emphasized.
This is key in the second phase of defense
Judit Varga also pointed out that
In the second phase of defense and the relaunch of the European economy, restoring the proper functioning of the single market is key, as a catalyst for the development of an industrial, transport and energy sector that will boost the competitiveness of Central Europe.
Concerning the European Commission’s package on economic recovery and the EU budget for the next seven years, which will be announced tomorrow, Judit Varga said that the economic effects of the coronavirus affect all Member States, but that the countries hardest hit by the health crisis do not coincide with the poorest. “Therefore, in connection with the new economic recovery package, the Hungarian aspect is emphasized that successful defense cannot be punished by reallocating resources. Catching up with less developed countries remains a priority, therefore we insist on preserving cohesion resources,” Judit Varga emphasized.
The Minister of Justice also emphasized that
the proposed financial instruments should be available to all Member States, and the criteria for allocating resources should reflect the level of development of the Member States, the extent of the slowdown in economic growth and geographical balance.
