There are places where the Christmas product range is already on the shelves
At the end of August, when summer is still palpably present and the school season has just started, Aldi decided to take a surprising step. On August 26, the German discount chain already started unpacking its Christmas sweets, such as Panettone, cinnamon biscuits, and even bishop’s bread was on the shelves. This decision surprised many, as the Christmas season usually starts much later, in the middle of the autumn months, the Pénzcentrum points out.
Aldi started its Christmas campaign in the middle of October last year, but this year it moved this date forward by a month and a half. Although this may seem crazy at first, when you consider the economic conditions and marketing strategies, there are several rational explanations behind the decision.
One possible reason is that the company wants to gauge consumer demand for seasonal products. Early merchandising gives you the opportunity to fine-tune supply and pricing based on demand and customer preferences before the actual holiday season begins. This avoids inventory shortages and allows the company to better prepare for peak periods.
Also, early supply provides a longer sales period for Christmas products, increasing the chances of sales and revenue. Longer shelf life creates more opportunities for consumers to purchase these products, thus increasing seasonal revenue.
