Changes at Kiwi.com: downsizing and new partnership with Ryanair
The management of Kiwi.com, the online flight ticket sales company based in the Czech Republic, has announced the planned downsizing of around 200 people. The exact details are not yet known, but the company was encouraged to take the step by the news that it has been unprofitable for a long time and that the negative result increased even more during the epidemic. According to information from the Czech media, the company’s loss is already close to two billion Czech crowns, which poses a serious challenge to the company.
The founder and CEO of Kiwi.com, Oliver Dlouhý, called the decision one of the most difficult corporate decisions of his life. The head of the company admitted that a talented team is necessary for corporate success, but times are changing and now they have to make long-term decisions that ensure the healthy and prosperous operation of the company.
Kiwi.com has been operating since 2012 and uses its unique algorithm to offer flights that combine flights from different airlines, even if they don’t otherwise work together. The company recently made an important announcement that they had reached an agreement with Ryanair. This means that Kiwi.com customers can now buy Ryanair tickets at the real price with no surcharge. This agreement allows Kiwi customers to have direct access to their myRyanair account and receive all airline information directly by email. It also means that Kiwi customers do not have to go through Ryanair’s customer identification process, which Ryanair previously described as “piracy” for customers of OTAs.
