Corporate collections in the 21st century at home and abroad
On September 27, 2024, during the Budapest Contemporary Fair, domestic and international corporate collections and their operators will present themselves as part of a large-scale conference at Bálna Budapest. Experts from Spain, the Netherlands and Austria, among others, are coming, who set a good example of why it is worthwhile for companies today to build and operate fine art collections on a value basis.
In addition to international specialists, domestic corporate and artistic actors will speak on topics such as the role of art consulting, legal and financing background options, the role of private collections in offices, or the importance of visual arts in corporate culture and events. The purpose of the conference is to show the new opportunities for the business sector to connect with the visual arts in Hungary today. The sponsor of the event is Optinvest.
In 2023, Art is Business, as the country’s joint art and business platform, set the topic of corporate collections on its banner. All this in order for the business world to see contemporary visual art as a value and to understand why it is worthwhile to manage this area within a corporate framework. That year, in addition to organizing a training course, they organized the first Corporate Collections conference, the purpose of which was to present the domestic and international companies that actively build and care for the collections they own. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deutsche Telekom and Mercedes-Benz each took part in this event.
In 2024, the curators and managers of the fine art collections of companies such as one of the world’s most important financial institutions, Banco Santander from Spain, the Austrian Central Bank and Generali Biztosító from Austria, and the most important construction industry developer from the Netherlands and Germany, BPD (Bouwfonds Property Development), will arrive in Hungary for the first time. The speakers will talk about how their companies think about corporate collecting, how they integrate it into their corporate culture, how and for what they use the values and ideas provided by art, and they will also provide information about the legal and economic regulations of their own countries, which will help them in their commitments.
