Bottled Topo Chico shortage in the United States: The Coca-Cola Company suspends production until summer
Topo Chico bottled has become temporarily out of stock in the United States after The Coca-Cola Company halted production due to construction at its source and bottling plant near Monterrey, Mexico.
The According to a memo sent to distributors, well problems have slowed production in recent months, and the company has identified additional quality risks, some of which are geological in origin, and has temporarily suspended orders.
A spokesperson for The Coca-Cola Company reportedly indicated that the product could return later this year; according to the distributor letter, this could happen in the third quarter at the earliest. The company plans further investments in the source region to stabilize water quality and supply.
The outage reportedly only affects bottled mineral water, with other products under the brand (such as flavored waters) remaining available. The Coca-Cola Company acquired the brand in 2017 for $220 million; premium waters are also a key part of the company’s strategy as some consumers move away from sugary soft drinks and toward alternatives.
