Travel and diet: how to eat smartly during your vacation
Last-minute shopping, traveling companions arguing with each other and constantly changing schedules – no matter how much the vacation is supposed to be about relaxation, let’s face it, a lot of organization and rushing can be quite stressful. And those who are on a diet or suffer from food allergies or intolerances may encounter even more difficulties during the trip. Together with Brigitta Bakk, Rama’s dietician, we gathered what to pay attention to during your vacation in the case of a special diet, so that not a single dietary mistake will put a stamp on your vacation.
If you have food sensitivities or are on a diet, the biggest problem when traveling is usually the purchase of specially formulated foods. That’s why it’s worth buying the ingredients before you travel, so you can be sure about the composition and you don’t have to worry about not finding snacks that fit into your diet during your vacation. The usual, well-proven slices, snacks, easy-to-transport, non-perishable finished products can be an immediate solution at any time during a trip. From the homemade versions, muffins, margarine-based sandwich creams (for example, red lentil cream), porridges and filled tortillas can also be good options, and with Rama’s butter alternative, we can prepare dishes that are 100% plant-based, without palm oil, milk and preservatives.
It is important to remember that during a long journey, food in the car heats up easily, and this is no different for pre-prepared meals. Make sure to avoid perishable dishes on hot summer days and keep sandwiches chilled (e.g. in a cooler bag).
