Unitravel bankruptcy: compensation can also be travel – but there are some things that have to be paid out of pocket
Customers who were left stranded by the bankrupt Unitravel travel agency can choose not only monetary compensation, but also a new travel option. According to the insurer, the claim settlement has already begun, and IBUSZ has also been involved in organizing additional trips – but not all costs will be covered automatically.
Travel instead of money? Now this is also an option
In the case of vacations that were canceled due to the insolvency of Unitravel Kft., Colonnade Insurance announced: those affected can decide not to request monetary compensation, but to choose a new trip from IBUSZ’s offer. The new package should preferably be of the same value as the originally paid trip – if it is more expensive, the passenger must pay the price difference.
To do this, the injured parties must submit the necessary documents and consent in writing to the insurer settling the compensation directly with IBUSZ. The deadline is August 31, 2025.
Claims settlement is already underway
Colonnade began processing claims on July 10. They are also taking care of repatriating passengers stranded abroad, with the assistance of IBUSZ, as Unitravel’s charter seats were also booked through them. The insurer provides information on the exact steps to be taken, declaration samples and documents to be submitted on its own website.
Previously, passengers were asked not to show up for the departure of the announced trips, because the agency will no longer be able to fulfill its commitments. The Budapest Government Office has also launched an investigation into the matter.
