The tobacco processing industry in Debrecen to be revived with EU support
With the more than 2.5 billion HUF investment of the Róna Dohányfeldolgozó Kft., the tobacco processing industry in Debrecen to be revived. The company won 322.5 million HUF from the EU to implemend the project – Papp László (Fidesz), the city's strategic deputy mayor told at a press conference on Friday.
He reminded that the tobacco factory in Debrecen – that had a 125 years of history – was closed in 2004 and 380 workers were sacked.
Now there is a hope to once again increase the agricultural supplier background from areas of Hajdú-Bihar and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg counties – Papp László added.
Bajusz Géza, CEO of the Róna Dohányfeldolgozó Kft. added, that with the new investment 60 new jobs will be created, which will increase the number of tobacco workers in Debrecen to 360. (MTI)
