Due to EU rules the price of eggs may increase double-fold
The price of eggs may be doubled, if the producers have to introduce the new animal-friendly breeding techniques. The development could cost up to 50 billion HUF to the industry, but there is no option to tender these investments.
Several large egg producer countries of the European Union protest against the legislation, which provides, that until 2012, all the cage-tech plant is to be terminated, or the cages should be renewed. According to Földi Péter, president of the Poultry Product Board; there is a high risk that in the future a lot of egg producers can stop their activities, because of the inability to meet the EU standards – reports Magyar Nemzet Online.
