Etyek sparkling wine comes under EU protection
The European Commission approved the inclusion of Etyek sparkling wine in the register of protected designations of origin (PDO) on Wednesday.
The European Commission’s approval of the use of the name Etyek sparkling wine applies to sparkling wine produced from grapes originating from the vicinity of the Etyek settlement.
The characteristics of the geographical area, the constant wind, the limestone bedrock of the soil, The low temperature and humid air ensure a fresh, citrusy, fruity taste and a backbone of acidity. The sparkling wine has serious aging potential. Older sparkling wines are characterized by biscuity, bread-like notes, complemented by velvety bubbles and harmonious acids, with a long finish – they wrote.
With Wednesday’s approval, the Etyek sparkling wine designation was included in the eAmbrosia EU database, which already contains more than 3,679 protected designations.
In the EU’s food quality labeling system – alongside the protected designations of origin (PDO) – the protected geographical indications (PGI) are one of the most important categories.
