EU to Tax Imports of Swiss Products with Powdered Skim Milk
The tax is part of a price equalizing method agreed between Switzerland and the E.U.
Under the deal, Switzerland has until
now subsidized the export of powdered skim milk to the E.U. because
prices are typically higher in Switzerland. However, powdered milk is
now more expensive in the E.U. than in Switzerland, triggering the
tax.
The tax will hamper chocolate and biscuit makers such as
Nestle SA and Chocoladefabriken Lindt & Spruengli, which rely
heavily on milk products for their production.
