Sárrét kökenypálinka has received EU geographical indication protection
The European Commission has approved the addition of the name Sárréti kökénypálinka to the EU list of protected spirit products as a new protected geographical indication (PGI), the Brussels body informed on Wednesday.
The Sárrét kökenypálinka has a clear appearance, a distillate that evokes the smell and taste of wild fruit, and the sweet and sour character is present at the same time.
It preserves its characteristic taste and aroma even during possible maturation and storage. In the case of aging and aging, its color can be red, burgundy or yellow, depending on the red berry fruit or the barrel used. During aging, the fruit notes become more intense, the sweet feeling of the brandy increases. In the case of barrel aging, it can typically have a spicy, vanilla aroma and flavor character depending on the barrel material.
The production of Sárrét kökénypálinka can be done in distilleries (in commercial brandy distilleries) located in the following districts that touch the Sárrét area of Hajdú-Bihar County and Békés County and their administrative boundaries: .
