Shortage of meat in Ukraine
Ukraine did not succeed with its protectionist policy, shortage of meat occured in the market – announced the Ukrainian Minister of Agriculture. The country now need more imports than when they started the internal market protection program.
Ukraine started its protectionist policy in 2007, due to a shortage in the market: they began to boost the domestic meat industry with state aid and more stringent import controls, to repel foreign goods. The support scheme, however, were not sufficiently developed and the farmers received only one-twentieth of the needed support. Instead of the production, only the shortage increased on the market – reports Kárpátinfo.
