The Budapest airport is again under national majority ownership
Minister of National Economy Márton Nagy and Nicolas Notebaert, president of Vinci Airports, presented the future objectives and business plan of Budapest Airport at a joint press conference. Through the recently concluded transaction, Budapest Airport returned to national majority ownership after 20 years.
The purchase price of the airport was EUR 3.1 billion, to which was added the extension of the EUR 1.44 billion loan taken out by the previous owner. The Hungarian state paid 80 percent of the purchase price, i.e. 2.48 billion euros, while Vinci undertook 20 percent, i.e. 620 million euros. The sale was made entirely on a market basis, and the purchase price complies with market standards.
Development plans and objectives
Márton Nagy said that the Hungarian state will not operate the airport, as it does not have the necessary expertise, so Vinci will perform the task. The airport’s development goals include 15 million passengers this year, 20 million by 2030, and 25 million by 2040. The developments are carried out by Vinci, but the strategic goals are defined together with the Hungarian state.
