The laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Authority (Nébih) confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus in a roast duck farm in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County. After the disease was confirmed, the eradication of the herd began immediately, and the epidemiological investigation is underway. Nébih calls for strict epidemiological discipline from all involved in order to prevent the further spread of the bird flu epidemic.

The disease was confirmed by the animal health authority in a herd of approximately 19,700 roast ducks located in the Tiszajenő settlement in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County. The suspicion of bird flu arose due to the increased mortality experienced in the herd, as well as the appearance of lethargy, loss of appetite and nervous system symptoms. The Nébih laboratory detected the H5N1 subtype of the virus in the samples. The eradication of the herd began immediately after the confirmation of the disease, and the epidemiological investigation is also underway. A 3 km radius protection zone and a 10 km radius observation (surveillance) zone have been designated around the farm.

Nébih draws the attention of livestock keepers to the fact that strict and consistent compliance with disease control regulations is essential to prevent another large-scale avian influenza epidemic

Since the virus is present in wild birds in the country, it is of paramount importance to minimize the possibility of poultry and wild birds meeting in order to avoid the spread of the virus from wild birds to poultry. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to comply with the closed keeping of poultry kept for commercial purposes in counties identified as high risk.

The authority once again draws attention to the change in the restocking rules

Multi-phase, fattened waterfowl flocks – including stuffing material and waterfowl in the process of being stuffed – that were liquidated due to avian influenza after October 1, 2025 can only be restocked after achieving national immunity in accordance with the requirements of the World Organization for Animal Health.
