Notre-Dame’s towers reopen to visitors – French tourism brings record revenue
Six years after a devastating fire, the twin towers of Notre-Dame de Paris have reopened to visitors. President Emmanuel Macron has inaugurated the renovated sections, fulfilling his promise to restore the cathedral within five years.
One of the milestones of the €700 million reconstruction is that visitors can once again climb the 424 steps, from where they can enjoy unparalleled views and the famous Gothic sculptures. Tickets for the first weekend sold out in just 24 minutes.
The rebirth of Notre-Dame coincides with a historic record for French tourism: according to data from the Banque de France, tourism receipts in July 2025 exceeded €9,023 million, the highest monthly figure ever. This marks a full recovery from the pandemic, and also shows that cultural icons, led by Notre-Dame, are a major economic driver for France.
In the coming months, the renovation will continue with the restoration of the apse, while tourism is expected to continue to grow. Notre-Dame and the French economy will thus regain their former glory.
