The national veterinarian once again ordered the compulsory confinement of poultry
Due to the increased risk of bird flu, the national chief veterinarian Dr. Szabolcs Pásztor ordered the compulsory confinement of poultry kept for commercial purposes in high-risk areas. In the counties concerned, the regulation concerning backyard herds is feeding and watering in a covered place, but in their case keeping them indoors is only recommended.
The national chief veterinarian 2/2023. decision no. affects the counties identified as high risk, i.e. the counties of Bács-Kiskun, Békés, Csongrád-Csanád, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Hajdú-Bihar, Komárom-Esztergom and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg. In these areas, all poultry kept for commercial purposes must be kept in a closed building, if the enclosure of the animals is not protected from above and from the sides with bird netting of sufficient strength.
The high-risk counties are the so-called in the case of backyard flocks, only indoor feeding and watering is mandatory
However, it is generally true that it is in the interest of all livestock keepers to reduce the risk of direct or indirect contact with wild birds, which is why it is recommended to keep these herds closed. It is important that laboratory testing of waterfowl before technological movement is still mandatory throughout the country. In addition, in the counties of Bács-Kiskun, Csongrád-Csanád and Békés, the mandatory laboratory examination of waterfowl before transport to the slaughterhouse is also in force.
