Bird flu has appeared in more counties
The laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) has detected the presence of the bird flu virus in Heves and Pest counties. The affected flocks are being destroyed and an epidemiological investigation is underway. Nébih calls on livestock keepers to do everything possible to prevent their poultry flocks from coming into contact with wild birds.

The increased mortality rate in a goose farm in Heves, Heves County, with approximately 2,800 geese, led livestock keepers to suspect the disease. In Gödöllő, Pest County, the disease appeared in a flock of 1,845 breeding geese, where lethargy, diarrhea, nervous system symptoms and increased mortality occurred.
In both cases, the Nébih laboratory confirmed the H5N1 subtype of the virus from the dead animals
The affected herds are being eradicated. A 3 km radius protection zone has been designated around the farms, and a 10 km radius surveillance (observation) zone has been established. Nébih calls on animal keepers to strictly and consistently comply with the disease control regulations even in areas that have not yet been affected by avian influenza. Since the sources of the infections were most likely wild birds, everything must be done to avoid direct or indirect contact of poultry with wild birds. Animals must be fed and watered indoors, and feed and bedding materials must also be stored indoors.
