Highly pathogenic bird flu has been confirmed in another county
The laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) confirmed the presence of a highly pathogenic bird flu virus in the county of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok. The liquidation of the affected stock has already been completed. The latest outbreak also clearly shows that increased compliance with biological safety regulations is of utmost importance throughout the country.
The virus was detected at the poultry farm in Tiszakürt, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties, which keeps about 3,600 fattening turkeys. This time, the lethargy of the birds and the increased mortality in the flock raised suspicions in the animal keeper. The Nébih laboratory detected the H5N1 subtype of the virus in the dead animals. The liquidation of the affected herd has already been completed, and an epidemiological investigation revealing the causes of the appearance of the disease is underway. In accordance with the regulations, the authority designated a 3 km radius protection zone around the given farm, as well as an extended surveillance (observation) zone.
The main means of protection against the disease can still be strict and consistent compliance with epidemic prevention regulations
Due to the migration of wild birds, there is a risk of the virus entering poultry farms throughout the country. Poultry are currently only required to be kept indoors in high-risk counties, but feeding and watering poultry under cover, as well as storing feed and litter in closed places, is mandatory throughout the country.
